No Sugar For You!
That’s right, I’m not eating sugar for the whole of August.
From the first to the thirty-first of the month, no processed or added sugar shall pass. While natural sugars, like fruits, are a go, honey is not (it felt like cheating).
The goal of this is not to completely cut out added sugar for the rest of my life, but to see how much sugar I consume, when I reach for it and to call it out from its hiding places.
When I did a similar exercise with alcohol two years ago, I found the the experience eye opening. Meals felt emptier when I ate out with friends. Often, those around me encouraged me to cheat. And those nights after a long and tough day at work, I found myself reaching for a ghost glass of wine.
These exercises take us out of habit and into the realm of choice. It’s so easy to get into routines and function on autopilot.
So, with a couple close friends and family, I embark on a month of no sugar to reboot my conscious eating choices.
